Earlier this year I got an inquiry from Kari to document their birth story. I had already told myself I wasn’t going to take on any clients in August but I felt a calling to go meet her and her family and I am so glad I did. We connected quickly chatting about all things pregnancy, birth, and new baby and I was instantly excited to change my plans a bit so I could work with her and Curt as their Birth Photographer as they welcomed their first baby together.
A couple of weeks before Kari’s due date we got together for a maternity session on a warm and sunny summer evening at Kildonan Park. Kari was absolutely glowing and radiating.
I got THE text when Kari was just 39 weeks to let me know that it was go-time! I arrived at the Winnipeg Birth Centre in the wee hours to her labouring peacefully in the birth tub using the warm water as comfort. She welcomed her labour and was progressing very quickly! Curt was right by her side every step of the way trusting in her abilities and the process and always making sure she had just what she needed. To switch things up a bit Kari ended up getting out of the water and with that change of position transition hit. A couple of contractions later and her water broke and it was discovered there was meconium in the water. As a precaution, we all made the short transfer over to St Boniface hospital. Never wanting to lose sight of my clients or miss pieces of their story I made the call to jump in the backseat of Curt’s truck and the evidence speaks for itself that it was indeed a fast transfer.
Kari was so calm this entire time embracing the path this labour was taking her on. The trip up to the changed birth space was met with several strong and powerful contractions that stopped us all in our tracks. This little one was coming.
On August 20th, 2017 at 10:09 am a beautiful baby girl arrived and went straight to her Mama’s arms just as planned.
Kari & Curt thank you for inviting me into your lives to capture Londyn’s beautiful and exciting birth story. You two are such a wonderful team and it has been an honour getting to know you both and I love that we still keep in touch. Londyn is such a lucky little girl to be born into a home filled with so much love.
With love and gratitude,
