Winnipeg Birth Photographer
The beautiful and empowering birth of baby Ophelia
I met Lanna back when she was freshly pregnant with her 6th baby! Right from the get go I knew that I wanted to work with her. She is really fun to be around. She loves to talk and share stories and laugh! Her uplifting energy is so infectious. I was so stoked when she hired me on the spot to be her Birth Photographer! Bryan didn’t talk so much that day but he was there being supportive of his wife’s wishes! Way to go Bryan! Your calm and trusting presence was invaluable in labour and birth.
Lanna was set to be induced on September 1st at Women’s Hospital Winnipeg. When the day came around both her and I had our childcare lined up and waited for the call. No call. Next day no call again. The hospitals were busy busy (wink wink holiday season babies).
The day’s kept on passing by and it wasn’t until September 6th that she got the call! I was so excited to get the text “it’s baby day”
Lanna and Bryan got their childcare lined up as did I! It was a busy Tuesday with many parents preparing for kiddos to go back to school. Although busy it was also a beautiful Fall day with the hint of leaves changing colours and delicately falling from trees. The air held the type of breeze that lets us all know that the season has indeed changed.
I arrived at the hospital at 2:00pm and met Lanna and Bryan in their room. Room 6! It’s was the 6th and this was to be their 6th baby!
The induction was soon underway and the three of us spent a couple hours chatting and listening to music. I really enjoyed this time where I got to know my clients a bit better. It’s rare that I make the call to arrive at a birth this early but with this being baby #6 and the fact that her last labour was super fast I wasn’t taking any chances!
Lanna and Bryan are such a fun couple! I really enjoyed listening to many stories especially Bryan’s “country boy” stories ha ha. I also enjoyed their music tastes with everything from pop to rap to country! Music in a birth space can be a wonderful tool and they sure rocked it out!
The contractions soon picked up and although the conversations were not as frequent there was still constant joking and laughter and I really think that it kept the mood light and everyone at ease.
Lanna and Bryan worked as such a wonderful team the entire time. When Lanna hired me to be her Birth Photographer she let me know that she was not interested in Doula services because her husband is her support and that they know what they are doing! Well I absolutely agree with that!! Bryan was such an amazing support to Lanna. He knew exactly what she needed and when she needed it! Whether that be gentle massage, kissing, singing, music, dancing, inappropriate jokes or just that quiet strong unwavering support. Way to go Bryan!! It was an honour and inspiration to be alongside them as they navigated the many spirals, twists and turns that come with labour and birth.
13 hours later at 5:11 am on September 7th, 2016 baby Ophelia made her grand entrance weighing in at 6lbs 13oz. She arrived beautifully with a full head of hair. Lanna and Bryan both had a very healing birth experience. I am so over the moon for them!
Welcome to the world sweet Ophelia. You are so loved.
