My Story

Winnipeg Birth Doula, Photographer + Videographer

The births of my sons were by far the best days of my life. The feelings of immense joy, pure love, connection, strength and power will never be forgotten. Words cannot express what it felt like to meet each of them for the very first time and feel their tiny bodies breathing as I held them skin to skin in my arms. Each of their births sparked a fierce passion in me and led me on this incredible path into birth work.

Combining my love of photography and my passion for births I started offering Birth Story Photography and Doula Care in Winnipeg in 2015 and have never looked back. I absolutely love what I do and pour my heart and soul into my clients that hire me to be by their sides on their baby’s birth-day.

About Cat

  • I was born and raised in the north end of Winnipeg.
  • I met my husband backpacking Australia in 2003 and we dated long distance for years. He is originally from England. We got married on a beautiful beach in Cuba in 2010.
  • I used to work as an Office Manager before having kids. It was comfy but it sure wasn’t my calling.
  • My husband and I started our own family landscaping and paving business in 2014. He creates the most beautiful landscapes in Winnipeg and beyond. Stonehenge Designed Landscapes
  • My first son was born via cesarean after a very long birth that didn’t go at all as I had envisioned. His birth taught me that the only thing predictable about birth is that it is unpredictable.
  • My second son was born peacefully in a birth pool in my living room under the amazing care of Manitoba Midwives. My HBAC (home birth after cesarean) was such an incredible experience.
  • My third son was born precipitous just 40 minutes after my first contraction. My husband ending up catching him just 10 minutes after he arrived home from work. It was just us and our boys at home and although we never planned an unassisted birth I wouldn’t change a thing.
  • I had the most amazing Doula for all 3 of my birth journeys and although she missed the birth of my third she was the first familiar face to walk through my front door that day and I’ll never forget the calmness and trust she brought into our space that day and for all our births.
  • We love to travel as a family. In 2016 we spent a month living in Costa Rica.
  • I am a runner. It’s my calm and quiet time to connect with myself and with nature.
  • It’s super cheesy but I really feel like life is just way too short and way too precious. I am all about living each day to the fullest and saying YES to experiences as much as I can.
  • In 2016 I jumped on a plane alone and attended the Birth Becomes Her Professional Birth Photography Workshop in Denver, CO and trained alongside some of the top Birth Photographers in the world. It was absolutely incredible.
  • I love to learn and grow as a person and as a professional. In 2019 I attended my first Click Away Photography Conference which was in California. I am looking forward to attending Click Away 2020 in Atlanta. One day I hope to teach at the conference.
  • I volunteer as a board member for MACFE. {Manitoba Association for Childbirth & Family Education} It’s my little way of giving back to the birth community.
